Each episode showcases four extraordinary homes around the world. The show provides a glimpse into the jungle homes of famous cinematographers as well as oceanside dwellings of reclusive designers. This is known as one of the best home design shows on Netflix.
Grand Designs
Each episode of Grand Designs features people in the process of building their dream homes. Hosted by Kevin McCloud, the show started in 1994 and is still going strong. It features a great diversity of locations and designs. The show highlights the challenges and successes of managing a renovation process. In the end, the family is able to pull through and solve problems. The important lesson here is that house building is actually a home building.
Amazing Interiors
This American reality TV show features three different spaces that look ordinary outside but has a unique look inside. It features something for everyone. Most of the homeowners featured in the show are passionate and have no design training whatsoever. There is no host or narrator so you can easily binge and scrub ahead to the parts you actually want to watch.
Interior Design Matters
In this show, amateur interior designers compete against each other for an opportunity to win a commercial design contract. The British reality TV show features contestants with varying personalities and skillsets. The show is nail-biting to watch as the contestants try to collaborate and finish their assigned rooms within the deadline. It’s an elimination series so one or two designers are sent home at the end of each episode. It’s a great show for bringing out the designer in you.
The Apartment
The show is like Big Brother and Interior Design Matters rolled into one. Most of the contestants are influencers not designers. What’s interesting about the show is that you get to immerse yourself in a totally different world. The winner of the reality show gets to own a luxury apartment in Kuala Lumpur. It doesn’t fall in the best home design show but it’s too fun to not include it.
The Great Interior Design Challenge
Another reality TV show, The Great Interior Design Challenge features budding interior designers pitted against one another for an opportunity to win a major design contract. Each episode features twists where each designer gets a last-minute surprise with an object that they must upcycle and incorporate into their schemes. Although in a competition, the show also highlights how the contestants help and encourage one another while under major stress. Judges for the show are Sophie Robinson and Daniel Hopwood, who strikes the perfect tone with balanced mentorship and tough love. If you like reality shows and in the process of doing a major home renovation, this show is worth watching.
